Healings

Postby Reznick on Mon Mar 16, 2009 7:12 am

Ok peoples, I finally respecced Shamy resto as I could not keep people healed in reg UK last night in my enh healers spec.....which basically means full enh spec with caster gear lol. anywho, I respecced and proceeded to have a HORRIBLE time trying to keep people alive. I know that a large part is due to me not practicing the heals and being the first time I actually healed full resto in a WOTLK instance, AND my gear inst the best, BUT I guess my question is, what kind of rotation do you restos use for 1. MT healing and 2. Party healing?

any suggestions will be much appreciated. :) \m/

one thing to remember, lvl 69 spells can be quite different from lvl 70 spells.

I also recall the first heroic i healed. It was Underbog, and the burst damage was so different than anything i'd seen before, I was sure that the boss hired the A-Team to take out the tank, cuz it was over in a second. (Point being the process changes a lot based on content). I had not needed to start a heal before it was needed before, and this was a big change.

Also, don't lose sight of the fact that i have less experience tanking than you have healing, so my instincts and gear might not yet lend themselves to making your life easier. :)

So don't let discouragement even enter the picture. Practice will smooth out the edges. :)

Shammy healing doesn't consist of spam chain healing and earth shield on the MT anymore? <.<

If this was BC I could offer some kind of adivce, but I haven't healed with any healing class in Wrath. Even pally healing seems to have changed up a ton since I've last done it. Like was said previously though, the level 70 instances might be a little tough for a 69 to go into. Everyone who was originally doing it was in 70 blues or epix. Maybe go back to some BC instances like SL or something, get the hang of healing there?

yeah these are all good points and maybe I shouldn't be so quick to jump into wotlk instances just yet, Mike you are right tho, I guess it seemed so easy when leveling Rez as I was all in t4/t5/ZA gear so I could tank UK, Nex, AK and AN at 70/71 lol. I think I am going to level Shamy resto tho so I can get the gear and practice so when I hit 80 I will be the bamf healer and be able to fit in with TFF's awesome heals \m/

Rotations would still be nice though, any restos reading this, I needs some insiders help ;)

Ok - this is from memory for BC, so if it's changed a bit in WoTLK, apologies. Try with these few pointers (and apologies if I'm telling you how to suck eggs)...

* Earthshield must stay up ALWAYS. Grab an addon that tracks the charges and lets you know when it's wearing off.
* Ditto for Water Shield.
* If you're casting Chain Heal AFTER there's been a lot of party-wide damage, it's generally too slow. Like Will said, you either have to predict when this is going to happen, or if it surprises you, cast a couple of direct heals on the person/s (i.e. the Tank!) most likely to take more damage after the AOE, and only THEN can you likely afford the time to do a Chain Heal.
* When I was gearing up my Resto Shammy, there was a bit of an invisible wall I hit that made running out of Mana in 5-mans a problem. Whether it was because I preferred to use Healing Wave a lot I'm not ure, but I found that as I persevered, as soon as I got 2 or 3 decent pieces of kit, it was no longer a problem. What stats are you focusing on (MP5 FTW!)?

Of course, when I eventually get around to levelling VIscanei, I could find that this has all changed, but what the hey!

Currently im leveling my shammy enhance, and im having no issues really healing Wotlk instance as enhance in ele/resto gear. I just spam lesser healing wave and its sweet, with the occasional normal heal chucked in. Mana is a bit of an issue but not much.

I guess I am somewhat odd man out. I do use A TON of Chain Heals and I do try to predict. Yes, ES is always up on MT. I try to proc my Rip Tide on the MT often. If anyone is suddenly has a major loss in health, I pop them a HW and then go straight into Chain. I pop chains from MT and Melee to Ranged to try to top off each group.
I know I tend to have a lot of overheals, but I also helped us kick Patchworks butt on my Shammy. I eat MP5 food and keep my Watershield up. I have ran out of mana and stopped for short time and had mana come back fast.....fast MP5 rates.
I suppose part of it is the group. I start throwing heals fast and then slow down if I note that I am Way overhealing......like on Donnie, I can get bored on a run Donnie is tanking.....except CoS!!
Also, at lvl 80, I picked up a Epic Sheild and Mace cheap...I think I spent 1k gold to get the both and rocketed my heals up!! If I recall, one was 450 and the other was 550. Also, before I picked up my WOW mouse, I really depended a lot on Grid and Clique, I tried Healbot...did like it as much. find a combo you like. Now I use Grid and WOW Mouse.
I hope this helps,
